Reinventing the wheel is for suckers
Hence why I decided to use a blog platform such as Wordpress instead of my own engine.
In fact I had written my own. But the time to customize it to fit what I needed and what I planned to do in the future was taking time away from what really mattered: producing content and getting things done.
On a different project in the past, there were several developers that worked on the codebase who would each go about their own way to write code. For example, there were separate libraries specific to only certain files to make database calls and process the data returned in their own way, rather than improve upon an existing shared library. I couldn’t think of any good reason why this was done this way, other than completion speed. What an incredible waste of time and headache for a successive developer to maintain. And think of the potential security holes this could create!
Now that I’m not saying that reinventing things are always bad. And it’s not just applicable to just software either. It all depends on the situation and the context it’s in. Sometimes different angles or being used in a uncommon way will change what used to be adequate to not good enough. It’s always great to think ‘I can do this better’. Definitely go and make changes and improve things, as long as it is actually better and saves time in the long run. Otherwise the time lost makes it not worth the effort.
So think carefully and don’t be a sucka.

Add me to the list of bloggers!
Oh no I’m up to no good!
While I was thinking of what to do with this site, I thought it would be good to showcase some of my thoughts as well as other things besides my portfolio of customer projects. I’m using a free theme I found for the time being, until I can build my own.
I’m no stranger to blogging, as I’ve built my own site on (prehistoric web alert!) GeoCities back in the day in 1999. I suppose you could call the guestbooks back then the running comments for posts.
So lots of things coming soon… and excuse the mess while I figure things out
